It have been a long hot summer here in NEWFOUNDLAND and LABRADOR, but it is good to feel the cool soft breeze of the fall air. With the fall comes new exhibitions and fairs. 
The CRAFT COUNCIL GALLERY 59 Duckworth Street, St. John’s invites you to - ”400″ an exhibition celebrating Cupids and Community. The exhibition runs from, AUGUST 30 until OCTOBER 4, 2009. The Craft Council Gallery is partnering with Cupids 400 to present an exhibition celebrating this rich history and 400 years of community-building. Artists working with wood, acrylic, textile and other media explore this theme with reverence, insight and humour.
Then in November… A St. John’s tradition for more than three decades, the 2009 Fine Craft & Design Fair will be held from November 4th – 8th and November 11th – 15th at the Arts and Culture Centre.
“This Bear Got Heart” will be included in this exhibition, and at the fair, {Novembeer 4th-8th}. Please drop by to view the bears we would love to see you.

Living in small, isolated towns, our grandmothers and great-grandmothers learned to be skilled in needlecraft. They sewed, knitted, crocheted, tatted, and embroidered for their families, their homes, and their churches. Using these traditional skills, I cut out and hand sew each of my bears.

I know there are large numbers of people with old wool blankets, coats, sweaters, baby blankets, and many other forgotten treasures in their closets, attics and basements. I would like to chat with you about bringing new life to these items as teddy bears, so that they can sit in a place of honour, as nostalgic reminders of days gone by and of a special loved one or loved ones. My desire is for my teddy bears to bring as much joy to my customers as I find in creating them. And that my customers will recall or experience an important part of their past each time they look at or hug their bears.
